With a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Lipid Biochemistry, Dr. Andrea Neal has over 15 years of experience in the management of large-scale international projects, environmental campaigns, and scientific research. In addition, she is the Founder and President of Blue Ocean Sciences LLC, the Science Advisor for Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society, Director of the Opus Novum Center for Environmental Technologies, Adjunct Professor for Antioch’s Socially Responsible MBA Program, Principal Investigator for Project Kaisei in 2009, and one of the Principal Investigators for the 2011 Lone Ranger Transatlantic Investigation of Marine Pollutants with the Schmidt Ocean Institute. In the last three years, her teams have conducted three open ocean cruises exploring over 6,000 nautical miles of critical ocean environments. Dr. Neal serves on numerous scientific panels including UNESCO’s Global Forum on Oceans, Coasts, and Islands; the Aspen Environmental Forum with the Aspen Institute; and the Honolulu Strategy Document and network.
Dr. Neal has also worked on a wide range of projects including fresh water quality technologies, bio-fuel development, nano-toxicity studies, and educational outreach focusing on environmental toxins. Currently the Blue Ocean Sciences LLC team is working on new technologies in water bio-remediation and detection of different kinds of environmental contaminants including uranium, cesium and other radioactive heavy metals, heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants (POP’s), Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), nitrates, phosphate, carbon, fecal matter, and metal-oxide nanoparticles.
